Teriyaki Dinner Recipe

I’ve been making our bread each week for a few weeks. I’m starting to really enjoy the process. This past week I adapted my recipe to see if I could get a better loaf and it turned out really well.

My family likes to have bread that’s whole wheat but with a little unbleached all-purpose flour mixed in. I find it holds up a little better after freezing it too. Too often my 100% whole wheat bread is too crumbly after freezing. It’ great for breadcrumbs not so good for toast. 🙂

I didn’t plan anything too fancy this week for our dinners. I did find some steaks in the freezer so, we are having them one night this week. We are also having a few freezer meals and a new recipe for sweet aromatic chicken too. I’m hoping it turns out good.

Curious as to what you do for snacks and how much of this is homemade/made ahead? What is your budget? Thanks!!

    1. Jennifer, for snacks around our house it usually, peanut butter sandwiches, popcorn, oatmeal, fruit, nuts, crackers and cheese or peanut butter and sometimes cold cereal.

I make most of my own bread for the sandwiches. I purchase popcorn in the bulk at Winco foods and pop it on the stove top or in my microwave popper. Lately I’ve been purchasing crackers for my family but I have made crackers in the past. They just don’t seem to last very long. 🙂 When I can get cold cereal for $1 a box I purchase it for snacks too. When I have time I will make granola bars and granola as a special treat but again those items disappear more quickly.

As far as my budget, I allow $75 a week for all of our groceries for our family of 4. So I don’t have a separate budget for snack items but most of the items we eat as snacks are fairly inexpensive. Popcorn usually is $.88 a pound in the bulk, the oatmeal runs $.61 a pound. The nuts can get more expensive but I try to get what I see on sale, lately mainly peanuts and cashews.

      I hope that helps.

Thanks for the advice! Do you try to keep the menus pretty balanced health wise? Also do you keep baked goods on hand each week?

    1. I do try to keep our meals balanced. I try to have meat, starch, vegetables and fruit at each meal. Any baked goods we have I usually will bake myself. Since my kids and husband are allergic to milk, it’s harder to find baked items that are safe for them to eat.
