Goals for 2013, February Update

“A year from now you may wish you had started today.”-Karen Lamb

February was not a great month for me in a few areas. I was working on my kitchen decluttering and I really dragged my feet on getting this project done. You can see my final update here. The kitchen decluttering wasn’t near as bad as I thought but it seemed to set an attitude tone if you will for the whole month.

I felt a pressure was on me and in turn I didn’t do very well in my weight loss in fact you can read what happened last month in my weight loss update post next week. To say I am a little discouraged would be true. I have to tell you if I hadn’t committed to blogging about my weight loss I would probably be giving up at this point. Like I have so many times before. But I also picked Persist as my word for 2013 so how can I give up. While I am disappointed in my progress I know why I didn’t do well in the weight loss area. So I can work on correcting the problem for this next month.

Other than those two areas I think I am doing fairly well with my goals. Here’s the update for this last month.

My progress this past month on my 2013 Goals,

Seeking God

Bible Reading with the Kids each day (still keeping up with this 5 days a week)
Prayer time each day (most days)
Ministering to other by praying, encouraging notes, phone calls ( I need to work on planning for this more often)

Family

Be more aware of my husbands needs, do special things for him (I worked on giving my husband time to do his own thing often this last month.)
Take time with each child every week or at least each month
Teach kids to be productive and contribute by helping in the kitchen, yard, garden, chores (made a little progress this past month)
Homeschooling for my daughter grade 10th to 11th ( we had our half-year appointment for my daughters diploma program she is in)
Homeschooling for my son grade 1st to 2nd (my son is slowly warming up to a more structured school time)

Home Management

Organize and declutter the whole house, do one room/area a month and maintain rooms already accomplished (the living room and kitchen are now done 🙂  )
Set a cleaning schedule up and stick with it ( I missed a few days of cleaning this month but most days all my tasks were accomplished)
Meal plan and prep, plan menu for 5 weeks at a time and do regular quick freezer cooking sessions, try new recipes regularly (One week I just didn’t stick to our meal plan at all but it worked out just fine)
Make a plan with my husband about any home improvements we need to tackle this year and schedule ( we prepared the garden beds for our vegetable garden)
Continue my coupon shopping, bulk buying, freezer cooking and couponing to keep our household and grocery bill down (ongoing, I was able to get some good deals on meat this past month to add to the freezer and a great buy on blueberries)

Financial

Get Budget plan set for the year and re-evaluate each month (ongoing)
Rebuild saving for medical expenses ( we are making good progress on this goal)
Give regularly (better this month)
Start saving towards a rental purchase (this is going to take quite a while but each year we will be closer)
Contribute and Invest on a regular basis ( reached the goal for the month of Feb)

Personal

Read 12 books this year ( two books down 10 more to go)
Do a craft project a month ( I will have a new project post up later this week)
Lose 40 pounds ( I didn’t have a good month this month but it is my own fault)
Expand my knowledge base in the areas of blogging, graphics, and business ( I attended a few twitter parties this month)
Take more photographs and work on improving my skills

Blogging

Make a blogging schedule (blogging schedule has worked out well so far this year)
Set blogging times for each day with limits ( I am getting better with limited my time to set times to be online)
Plan blog posts one month in advance (I only have a plan about 2 weeks out right now but I am making progress)
Schedule post one week in advance ( almost there I have posts scheduled about 5 days out currently)
Write 6 to 12 guest post to submit ( I started two posts to submit this month, I will finish them in March)

Did you make goals for 2013? How did you do this past month? Did you make good progress?

  1. Hi Shelly, it looks like you have made some real progress on your goals. Just decluttering the kitchen is huge! Way to go! I know it’s hard not to get discouraged when you are working towards losing weight and not seeing the scale move down.

As you know I wasn’t making much progress for quite a while, but the scale is s.l.o.w.l.y moving down now. I’m at 188lbs., and I know the difference for me is having an accountability partner who actually emails me more than once a week, but we’ve committed to emailing one another on Mondays. This has pushed me to get on the treadmill. I know that if I wasn’t emailing an accountability partner, I would not be getting on the treadmill as often as I am. It’s actually starting to become a regular part of my day now.

I’m available if you need accountability. No pressure, though. 😉

    1. Good for your Sandra. It is great to hear your treadmill time is starting to become a regular part of your day. I will email you about the accountability and thanks for the offer you are so sweet. 🙂
