Easy and Cute Rolled Paper Christmas Tree Ornaments

Inside: An easy Christmas tree ornament project to make with the kids. These tiny Christmas trees look so cute and even your young children can help make them.

The kids and I have been working on making a few new Christmas ornaments for our tree. So far we have made the Jingle Bell Wreath Ornaments and Swirled Paint Ornaments. Both of those projects turned out great.

These rolled paper Christmas tree ornaments were really quite easy to make. The only problem we had was trying to get the paper rolled up nice and tight.

We made these cute rolled paper Christmas ornaments for our tree and they turned out so great. This is a great project to do with the kids and they also make a great holiday gift too. They would also be so cute on a gift to decorate them.

We had to give it a few tries on a couple pieces of the scrapbook paper that were a little thicker. I would recommend using the thinner scrapbook paper for this project or even Christmas gift wrap would work.

Scrapbook Paper 6 sheets or Christmas Wrapping Paper
Popsicle Sticks
Wooden Star for Top
Yellow Craft Paint
Glue, We used a hot glue gun

Before even starting with the paper, if needed paint your wooden star for the top of the Christmas tree so it can be drying while you are working on the rest of the ornament.

Once the star is painted and drying, it’s time to cut the strips of paper to make the tree. We purchased the 12 by 12-inch sheets so each of the strips we cut made two rolls. We cut strips of paper that were 4.5 inches, 4 inches, 3 inches, 2.5 inches and 1.5 inches wide to build the tree itself. Then out of the black paper for the base we cut 1 inch and 1.5 inches wide paper strips.

We used our paper cutter which was really helpful for keeping the strips the right size and quick to make the cuts too.

Assembling the Paper Tree Ornament

Once all the cuts were made we started to assemble each paper Christmas tree. Lay out one popsicle stick and then at the bottom glue on the 1-inch black paper base. Then just above that one glue the 1.5-inch black paper base.

Move up about half an inch and start assembling the rolls of paper for the Christmas tree. Start by adding the widest roll first, the 4.5-inch paper roll and finish with the smallest, 1.5-inch paper roll. Be sure to leave enough room to add the wooden star to the top of the tree.

Add the star to the top of the tree. We used hot glue to glue all of the paper rolls closed and to glue them to the popsicle stick. We used hot glue to add the star to the popsicle stick. It worked really well. You can use craft glue, but you might need to glue the paper rolls shut and let them dry before adding them to the popsicle stick.

Add a little loop of ribbon or yarn to the back of the rolled paper Christmas tree ornament so it can easily be hung on the tree. That’s it for making these cute little Christmas trees.

  1. What a great idea for using up leftover pieces of paper…I always have scraps of paper leftover from wrapping gifts, and I hate to throw them away. My kids would have fun making ornaments out of that paper 🙂
