Assorted Buttons
Wire
Ribbon

Yes, that’s right just 3 things are needed to make a button wreath for your tree. We purchased a bunch of assorted buttons in colors we liked but you could use old buttons you have around the house.

I have 3 jars of buttons I’ve inherited from my grandmas and my husband grandma. But I wanted these wreaths to be a little more uniform so I picked up a couple of bags of assorted buttons instead.

They made for really nice looking wreaths but if you have a good supply of buttons on hand you could use them instead of purchasing more.

How to Make These Homemade Ornaments

We did some trial and error and discovered how many buttons are needed and what length of wire we liked to use. But if you want smaller ornaments or larger ones just adjust the size of the wire to fit your needs.

The length of wire we used was enough wire to make the wreath and to bend the ends into a loop, so they could be hung easily on our Christmas tree.

Start with a piece of wire that is about 11 inches long. It’s easier to string on the buttons if you bend the wire into u shape to keep the buttons from falling off the ends. It was can be really frustrating to the kids if the buttons keep falling off.

String the buttons onto the wire until you have about 75 buttons on each wire. Be sure to vary the colors and sizes as you go.

The 75 buttons make a nice size finished button wreath of about 2 1/2 inches in diameter.

Once all the buttons are on, bring the wire end together at the end of the buttons and twist them together. I used pliers to twist the wire and found it was easier.

Now use the extra wire to form a nice circle or ring to hang your ornament from. If your wire is a little short, try making a hook instead.

Finally, tie on a 12-inch piece of ribbon to the wire at the top of the wreath and make a bow.
