At our house, we try to make a new ornament or two each year. The kids enjoy the projects and I like to have a variety of ornaments on the tree. We definitely have an eclectic looking tree with all the ornaments from over the years. But we love it.

I like to make at least one easy ornament that my son can help with. He likes to craft but if it takes too long he loses interest. So these quick and easy snowman ornaments were perfect for him.

He was able to paint, then take a break and help assemble the other items. Switching tasks made it more enjoyable for him to help assemble a few. If you have a wiggly boy this would be a perfect craft project for him too.

How to Make Homemade Snowman Christmas Ornaments

Start by painting on a layer of white paint. One or two coats on the popsicle stick. Be sure to paint both sides. While the paint is drying make the hat and nose out of the foam sheets.

For the hat, you’ll want to cut a rectangle 2 cm by 3 cm out of black foam. Cut another black piece of black foam for the brim 1cm by 3 cm.

And a small white strip of foam for the hat at 1 cm by 2 cm. To assemble the hat take the large rectangle and attach the black strip for the brim onto the bottom of one of the short ends of the rectangle.

Then add the white strip to the hat just above the brim. Glue both pieces in place and let dry.

For the nose cut a rectangle 2 cm by 1 cm and then cut in half lengthwise. This will give you two noses. Set aside.

Out of the felt, cut a strip about 10 cm long and the width you prefer. This will be the snowman’s scarf.

Once the white paint is dry add a coat of the glitter paint and let dry. Place the hat where you want it on the snowman and then place the nose where you would like it.

Don’t glue them yet, we are just making the marks for the eyes and mouth right now. Make dots for the eyes and a line or dots for the mouth with a pencil.

Remove the hat and nose and paint the eyes and mouth with a small paintbrush and black paint. Let dry.

Now we can assemble the rest of the snowman. Place a little glue on the snowman’s head where you’ll be adding the hat. Glue the hat in place. Glue the nose in place.

Add the buttons to the front of the snowman and then position the scarf.

Place the scarf behind the snowman’s neck. Next wrap the first end of the scarf around to the front and glue it down. Next, wrap the other end of the scarf around to cross over the first and glue into place.

With scissors cut small strips into the end to make a frayed end of the scarf if desired.

Cut a short piece of ribbon for the hanger. Shape the ribbon into a circle and glue to the back of the snowman.

Your snowman is done. These turned out so cute. My kids had a fun time making them.

These would be so cute tied to the outside of a present to dress it up and the recipient would have a new handmade snowman ornament for the tree too.
