Slow Down Challenge, Day 2 Savor the Moment

Savor your Day

Day 2 of the Slow Down Challenge is to Savor the Moment. I read in his post for today (and the graphic above), “Busyness robs us of the gift right in front of us”. How true is that? How many times have you just pushed through your day to get your list of tasks done. Not slowing down to play with the kids or enjoy your lunch. Just so focused on what you need to do you just don’t even enjoy the day. I know I have had many days just like that.

Take time to savor an everyday moment each day

I know growing up my mom had a sign up on the wall in our house. It said something about all the busyness a mom can have in her day, the laundry, the cooking and cleaning and how it pulls her away from her most important task, her child. I used to read it and wish as a child my mom had more time to do fun stuff with me. But  now as a mom, I think of it as a reminder to take time to savor the days with my kids.

I always thought when I was grown I would have more time to spend with my mom. Doing the things her and my grandma did together. The canning, gardening, shopping and sharing dinners at each others home. But that wasn’t meant to be for me. My mom’s days were to be much shorter, on this earth, than we could have ever known and before I even was out of college she was gone.

I am so thankful for those times as a teenager, when I would wake up early just to sit and watch a show with her. I am thankful for all the times I said, I love you to her. Now I so savor those moments in my mind. It also serves to me a reminder that we don’t know what each day may bring and we need to enjoy our life each day. To savor each moment and memory we make. As you never know how many moments you have left.

Today’s Challenge, Savor

Today’s assignment was to take time with your food. To savor each bite, eating slowly, chewing it 20 times. Take time to really taste and enjoy the food and to smile in between each bite.

Dinner

I also decided to take the time to have my son cook with me. He is an active little boy and really likes to help in the kitchen. Some days I just don’t have the time to have him help me, but today I took the time. He helped me wash the vegetables. We talked about how to cut the vegetables as he watched me. He helped put the food into bowls and cook the dinner.

It was a great time and I am sure I will remember it always. It will be one of those moments I will look back on and smile. It’s just an everyday moment but that is what most of our life is made of, everyday moments.

What everyday moment did you have today that will be with you always?

  1. What a sweet time you had with your little one! We love to cook together. There’s just something special about making food with those you love and then sitting down to the meal together. 🙂

I really like the message he had for today. That’s a great quote!

  2. What a wonderful memory you made today with your son! A couple of nights ago, I took my daughter out for a coffee “date” – she had hot cocoa, while I had my coffee, and we also bought a few treats for dessert. It was fun to just sit and talk together without any interruptions like we might find at home.
