Tuesday Garden Party

Has spring started at your house yet? I know some of you have been battling the awful winter weather for so long. I’m sure you’ll be glad when it finally clears out. Spring seems to have come early here in Oregon. We have had a few cold mornings but the days have been really nice.

A few weeks ago, the kids helped me to plant some seeds. We placed them on top of the refrigerator and then after they sprouted. It was so nice outside, I moved them to the cold frame. They were growing so well that when I checked them last week I found the roots were already growing out the bottom of a few.

My broccoli seedlings are really going to town.

Now normally I will start them in larger pots but this year, since I found a great deal on the seed starting sets at a garage sale, I decided to use them. But as you can see they didn’t last long before I needed to transplant most of the seedlings to bigger pots. That was my garden chore for this week.

With the weather being so nice, I transplanted all of the broccoli directly to the garden, along with the lettuce. I already had lettuce, radish and peas, both pole and bush snap peas up in the garden. I’m hoping to have a better crop of broccoli this year. Last year the aphids attacked them and the year before I got too late of a start and they bolted. Here’s hoping year three is better.

Last week we had some really good links shared. Here’s my picks from last week’s link up.
