12 Months to a Healthier You Challenge, Week 37

A healthier You for 2014

I’m following along with theΒ 12 Months to a Healthier You Challenge at Money Saving Mom. I started the challenge in January to help keep me motivated to lose weight and help me establish some good healthy habits too.

How the Challenge Works

Each month of the challenge will have an area to focus on, to help improve your health and mine. This month’s focus will be on decluttering your home.

I know I always feel better when my home is picked up and clean. When the house is cluttered it’s hard to relax. This month that’s what I’ll be working on each week.

My Goal for September’s Focus Area

This month is the month for decluttering. I decluttered my whole house last year. It was a task, but I was so glad when I had it all done. I’ve been able to keep my house fairly clutter free this past year but I noticed a few areas of the home that could use a little purging.

For this month, my goal will be to take 30-60 minutes each week to work on decluttering some areas of the home and purging items I’m not using. Come on and join in the challenge this month. What do you have to lose but a little clutter?

My purse was looking pretty bad so it was time to purge the purse. That was this week's decluttering.

My Progress for this week

As the week was slipping right by, I realized I hadn’t done any decluttering yet. It was a busy week, homeschooling, keeping up with blog stuff, drying 20 pounds of peaches and making a batch of peach jam. Makes me a little tired just typing it.

But as Thursday afternoon rolled around, I decided to declutter my purse. I’m not really good about keeping my purse clutter free. Lots of stuff ends up in it, expired coupons, candy wrappers, old grocery lists and a few used hand wipes. Yes, everything ends up in my purse. But as I started to clean out the clutter, I realized something I had forgotten about.

You see about two weeks ago, I went shopping at Fred Meyer. I needed sugar for my canning and I picked up a bag of sugar. Just as I was about to place it in my cart, I heard a funny rushing sound. As I looked down I saw a steady stream of sugar running into my purse.

Quickly, I moved it away from my purse, only to have it pour into my sandals. Yep, now I had sugar in my sandals and my purse. I finally got myself out of the stream of rushing sugar. I put that sugar bag off to one side and selected one that hadn’t sprung a leak and moved on.

I shook the sugar out of my shoes as I made my way to the car. I also made a mental note to clean out my purse. Well, as things go, I got home, got busy and quickly forgot about the sugar in my purse. The mental note didn’t come forward until I was thinking yesterday about what to declutter, then it hit me I still had sugar in the bottom of my purse.

So, along with all the old receipts and expired coupons, I purged the sugar finally from my purse. πŸ™‚

As far as my other goals, I exercised, drank my water, ate my fruits and vegetables, went to bed on time, but ate a little too much sugar again this week. It turned out to be a good week.

What did you declutter this week?

  1. This month is a real challenge for me. Part of my clutter comes from always be prepared, the 3 is 2, 2 is 1, and 1 is none theory. But I’ve applied this to all aspects of my life. I’m trying to cut it down, it is a task but I’m hoping to reflect on this a year from now and be grateful to have gotten rid of a few things.

As for my purse it’s the one thing that’s always clutter free because I change it out a few times a week and I don’t carry around a ton of things.

  2. Oh my goodness…sounds like something I would have done! I had the exact same things in my purse this week (minus the sugar) that I had to clear out.

I decluttered quite a bit last year too, but it’s making it’s way back again. I should really go through and purge again soon.
