Learn how to make dried strawberries 3 different ways. Dehydrating strawberries can be easy when you have the right tools. This recipe shows you how to dry strawberries in the oven, dehydrator, or the air fryer.
Storage Containers, mason jar, vacuum bags, or zipper bags
Ingredients
Fresh Strawberries
Instructions
Wash the strawberries and let them drip dry in a colander.
Remove the stem and hull with a paring knife or strawberry huller.
Slice the strawberries lengthwise about 1/4 inch thick. Try to keep your slices are uniform as possible for best drying.
In Food Dehydrator
Place the sliced strawberries on the tray, leaving room around each berry slice.
Place the dehydrator tray into the dehydrator and set to 135 degrees. Dry for 10 hours or until crisp and no liquid pocket remains.
In Oven
Place in a single layer with room around each strawberry slice. Don’t overcrowd the pan.
Turn on the oven to the lowest setting.
Place the lined cookie sheets with the sliced strawberries in the oven. Leave the door cracked a bit. This will help keep a low temperature so the strawberries will dry and not cook.
Leave in oven for 4-6 hours. The dried strawberries are ready when they are crisp and no pockets of liquid remain.
In Air Fryer
Slice the strawberries, pat dry and place in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Don’t overcrowd the tray. The strawberries should not be touching each other.
With this method, you may have to work in batches depending on how many strawberries you are drying and how big your air fryer basket is.
Set the air fryer to the lowest temperature. Some models can be set to 180, but others only go as low as 200.
Place the air fryer basket into the air fryer and let dry about an hour. Flip the strawberry slices and let dry another 30 minutes.
The strawberry chips are ready when they look leathery and no liquid pockets remain.
Once Your Strawberries are Dried
Before you package your dried strawberries for storage, cool them completely first. If the dehydrated strawberries are warm, they can draw moisture, and that is not good for dried foods. ( See notes for conditioning instructions for best long-term storage)
Once cooled, add them to a jar with an airtight lid, or into a zipper topped bag and remove as much air as possible. Or vacuum seal them.
Label with date, contents and any other notes.
Store in a cool dark place. Use within 6 months to a year.
Notes
To condition your dried strawberries for long-term storage. Loosely pack your dried and cooled strawberries into an airtight container. I use a mason jar with a plastic lid with a seal. Over the next week, shake the jar each day and check for moisture. If no moisture is present in the jar after a week, pack your dry strawberries for long storage.Nutritional Information below is an estimate.
