Good Freezer Meals…

Do you have to cook freezer meals before freezing?

The best freezer meals are ones that taste fresh. And they taste fresh because they are frozen without cooking first. Throw all the ingredients together in a bag, seal, label and freeze. Easy peasy!

They are freezer meals that are easy to assemble. You don’t want to have to spend hours planning prepping, chopping and cutting. So good freezer meals to make have only a little vegetable prep or sauces to make.

The best freezer meals to make are one that are easy to cook or can be cooked in a variety of ways.

Like these chicken freezer meals for the grill. Yes, they can be grilled but these can easily be baked in the oven or put into the crock pot or even an instant pot to cook.

How Long Do Homemade Freezer Meals Last?

When storing food in the freezer, frozen foods remain safe indefinitely but the quality of the meals can go down with time according to the USDA. So storage times are for food quality.

How long a homemade freezer meal will last depends on whether it has been cooked or not. Most cooked meats can last in a freezer 2-4 months when it is packaged properly.

Uncooked meat like this chicken freezer meals can last 9-12 months in the freezer. Plus uncooked freezer meals, just taste fresher. That’s because you the meals are cooked the day of serving instead of a month or two before.

What are the Best Freezer Containers to Freeze Food In?

The best freezer containers to freeze food in are freezer containers or freezer bags. These are containers that are made to go into the freezer, seal tight and hold up to the cold temperatures.

Don’t use containers like old butter tubs or plastic containers. They don’t seal tightly. Your food can end up freezer burnt. It’s best to use a freezer containers, freezer bags, or even a vacuum sealer to keep food sealed well and fresh.

Freezer Containers can be great to store in. Can be cleaned and reused over and over. And depending on the type you get, you might be able to reheat or cook right in them.

Some links in this article are my referral links, which means when you purchase through them I can make a little money at no extra cost to you. See the disclosure page for more information.

Here’s a set of Glass Freezer Containers and a set of Plastic Freezer containers.

The only problem with freezer containers is they can be bulky if you are limited on freezer space. If freezer space is limited try using freezer bags instead.

Freezer Bags are what I use the most. They are easy to purchase at any store. And if you get the stand and fill type, you don’t need anything to help them stand up while you fill them. I love the stand and fill bags

But if you don’t have the stand and fill type bags, you get these handy clips to help the bags stay upright while you fill them.

And the final reason freezer bags are better is that you can freeze them laying flat and then stand them up so they take less room in your freezer. This is a great way to maximize the space in your freezer.

  1. I’m curious if you’ve tested any of these recipes using a vacuum sealer (like you mention) bag for freezer storage? And if you did how long did you let it stay frozen before trying it? Asking because some of your sauces are basic marinades. I thought there was a limit on leaving those vacuum sealed with the meat before there were adverse flavor effects (they get too intense).

    1. BonJon, I’ve not recently vacuumed sealed any of these recipes since I find it easier to use a zipper topped bag with liquids. I would never hit the stop button in time to keep the liquid from being sucked out. Ha! But I wouldn’t leave them long in a zipper sealed bag with marinade as I’ve heard the flavors get too intense too. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.
