Week 3 Update, 12 Months to a Healthier You

Have you joined in the 12 Months to a Healthier You challenge? I decided to join the challenge with Crystal of Money Saving Mom since I have a goal of losing 20 pounds this year.

About the Challenge

How the challenge works just in case you hadn’t heard it about before now. Each month there will be an area to work on and as you might have guessed by the photo above this months focus is on exercising.

My Exercising Goal for This Month

I committed to exercising 5 times each week. I didn’t set an amount of time to exercise but just to get some exercising in 5 times each week. So far this plan has been working out quite well.

Get Up and Move

My Progress

I usually get up early and get my exercising in each morning before anyone else is up. I find that early morning is the best time for me. If I don’t get it done right away I will find any excuse to avoid exercising. So it’s best for me to just get out of bed and get it done before I’m awake enough to talk myself out of it. 🙂

This past week has gone fairly well. I was able to get all 5 days of exercising in again. I might even get a 6th day in if I do some yard work tomorrow, that is if the weather cooperates.

The first two weeks consisted of my regular exercise routine of cardio or calisthenics and some yard work. This week I saw an exercise routine on Dr. Oz. I don’t usually watch the show but I was flipping through the channels and saw they had Chris Powell demonstrating an exercise routine. So I thought I would try that routine a few times this week.

The next day, I couldn’t believe how sore I was after that routine. I really thought it wouldn’t be bad at all but I guess I hadn’t been using those muscles for a while. I’m sure all that soreness means I got a good workout, right?!

I’m adding the new exercise routine, I learned on Dr. Oz,  to my regular workouts. I am thinking about adding in a Pilates routine too. I have one I haven’t done for a while so I probably should pick a day to add that in too. I’m hoping by varying the exercises I can use lots of different muscles and avoid getting too much soreness.

How did your week go? Are you exercising on a regular basis? Leave me comment and let me know.

  1. Great job getting your workouts in, Shelly! I’ve gotten on the treadmill twice this past week, and that’s something I haven’t done in a long time. I’ve gained about 10 pounds with all that’s been happening the past six months, and now that we’re home, I’m going to work on eating better and getting in regular exercise.

I know if I could get up earlier like you, I could make some real progress. I’m working on it…

    1. Good job Sandra at getting two days of exercise in this week. I know you will get back into regular exercise and eating better now that you are home. You are the one who inspired me to try to lose weight again. So I know you will start making progress on your weight loss soon.

Getting up early may not be your thing. You have to do what works for you and early may not be it. You may be a mid-day achiever. 🙂 I know once you find what works best for you, for the season of life your in, the progress will come.
